Dr. Minaker published in Survey of Ophthalmology
Dr. Minaker published an article in the July, 2022 “Survey Of Ophthalmology” with a team of researchers he still works with at The University of Toronto. They performed a systematic review and meta-analysis where they searched the literature looking at articles related to retinal displacement. After retinal detachment surgery, sometimes the retina can shift position which can lead to poorer visual outcomes. Since there is limited data on this, they pooled data from different studies and compared different repair methods to look at procedures and techniques which minimize displacement and identify the techniques which have a higher risk of displacement. They identified 21 studies and pooled data on 1,258 eyes. In addition to surgical techniques, they looked at silicone oil and gas as well as the effect of face down positioning.
