Dr. MacCumber, Dr. Minaker and Dr. Shepherd published in Ophthalmology Retina!
BIG NEWS TO SHARE!
We are pleased and proud to announce that Dr. Mathew MacCumber, Dr. Samuel Minaker and Dr. Emily A. Shepherd were recently published in the prestigious journal Ophthalmology Retina!
The collaborated article detailed a study aimed to identify surgical patients who may be at higher risk for proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) development after rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) repair. Using a large database of over 57,000 patients, they found that patients with a history RRD with PVR in one eye, have approximately 3.5 times higher rate of PVR in their second eye after RRD compared with patients without a personal history of PVR. This finding potentially impacts surgical decisions and use of prophylactic anti-PVR therapy if the patient’s second eye has RRD. The final visual acuity in second eye of patients with history PVR is better than for the second eye of patients with no history of PVR which may indicate surgeons are already taking steps to prevent PVR in the patient’s second eye.
