Dr. Hasan attends AAO Leadership Advocacy Group Meeting
On January 21, 2022 Dr. Hasan virtually attended the American Academy of Ophthalmology Leadership Advocacy Group meeting in Washington DC. He attended the meeting in his capacity as Chairman of the Ophthalmology Political Action Committee (OPHTHPAC). During the meeting, more than twenty different ophthalmology subspecialty and advocacy groups presented their concerns regarding various legislative issues relating to patient care. Some of these issues included cuts to Medicare, surprise medical billing of patients by hospitals and emergency rooms and step therapy (in which insurance companies force patients to use cheaper drugs rather than the best drug for the patient). At the end of the meeting, Dr. Hasan and other leaders in Ophthalmology prioritized the importance of each issue.
The next day, Dr. Hasan (in his capacity as Associate Secretary of OPHTHPAC), joined other leaders in the American Academy of Ophthalmology for the Secretariat for Federal Affairs meeting. During this meeting, issues from the previous day were discussed along with Medicare reform, health policy, research, regulatory and scientific relations and federal initiatives. All this was discussed in an effort to improve the quality of healthcare and deliver it in a cost effective and timely fashion to our patients.
